The client
  • One of the largest private telecommunication services providers in India
  • Business units include fixed line and mobile phone services, telemedia, digital television, and enterprise solutions
  • Headquartered in Delhi, India
Business need

This first-of-its-kind project in India enabled subscribers of the client’s mobile services to use their mobile phone as a medium to make and settle OTC (over the counter) and remote merchant transactions. The payment ecosystem would cover approximately 8,285 distributors, 9.33 million customers, and 261,000 daily transactions

Challenges

The processes would need to be operationalized with these considerations:

  • Statutory compliance – TDS, service tax and RBI (Reserve Bank of India)guidelines
  • Robust Procure-to-Pay and treasury function setup
  • Daily distributor top-up, merchant and interbank settlement, daily settlement of commission payable to distributors and retailers
  • Daily review of fund position
Our solution

Infosys conducted an in-depth review of the business and defined processes from scratch:

  • User acceptance testing (UAT) of m-commerce systems–impacting areas like settlement and order management
  • Up-front resource optimization from day one of operations
  • Continuous improvement through process benchmarking, best practice sharing and quality initiative
Benefits
  • Involved in formulation and consistent performance of m-commerce processes for channel management, financial reporting, and statutory compliances
  • UAT before change request minimized process risks, identified deficiency in process and controls for revenue leakage and unaccounted / unauthorized transactions
  • Consistent accuracy and efficiency achieved with the help of processes operationalized by Infosys BPM
