Financial reporting for m-commerce project for one of India’s largest telecom operators

The client
  • One of the largest private telecommunication services providers in India
  • Business units include fixed line and mobile phone services, telemedia, digital television, and enterprise solutions

Business need

This first-of-its-kind project in India enabled subscribers of the client’s mobile services to use their mobile phone as a medium to make and settle OTC (over the counter) and remote merchant transactions. The payment ecosystem would cover approximately 8,285 distributors, 9.33 million customers, and 261,000 daily transactions


The processes would need to be operationalized with these considerations:

  • Statutory compliance – TDS, service tax and RBI (Reserve Bank of India)guidelines
  • Robust Procure-to-Pay and treasury function setup
  • Daily distributor top-up, merchant and interbank settlement, daily settlement of commission payable to distributors and retailers
  • Daily review of fund position
